Wei Cun Ke's inspiration for "Reactivate" came from the desire to preserve the original essence of this 40-year-old house while transforming it into a brand-new office. The designer's approach was to avoid superfluous adornment, instead focusing on the use of materials and spatial configuration to re-mold the features and durability of the historical house.
The unique properties of this design lie in its preservation of the building's original essence and its use of environmentally friendly, non-toxic materials that are easy to maintain and clean. The office space is unconventional, boasting its own stylistic quality that belies its age.
The realization of this design was rooted in the principles of environmental protection and durability. The porch floor was paved with recycled ore material, offering waterproof, scratch-resistant, and low shrinkage rate features. The wallpaper of the reception area was outputted with environmental protection ink, and the metope of each area was selected with a dislodge formaldehyde coating to create a safe and non-toxic office space.
One of the main challenges of this project was integrating the old construction with new design. The compartments in the former space were disorganized, with different metope segments measuring 2.4 meters, 2.5 meters, and 2.7 meters. A benchmark was set up to obtain a tidy vision and make pipeline configuration more convenient.
The project started in July 2017 and was completed in November 2017 in Taiwan. The design was awarded Silver in A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2019, a testament to its outstanding expertise and innovation.
In conclusion, Wei Cun Ke's "Reactivate" project is a shining example of how innovative design can breathe new life into old spaces, preserving their historical essence while meeting the needs of modern times. It serves as an inspiration for future designers to consider the potential of existing structures and the power of sustainable, thoughtful design.
